Tierney Sutton Band, Telarc

Tierney Sutton has one of the most beautiful and seductive voices in today’s jazz world. Her latest album is full of life’s intimacies and intriguing surprises (“Fever,” “Then I’ll Be Tired Of You,” and “Cry Me A River”). Ms. Sutton is supported by pianist Christian Jacob, drummer Ray Brinker, and bassists Trey Henry and Kevin Axt.

Anne Walsh, A To Zink Music

Anne Walsh’s debut jazz album, Pretty World, features a collection of elegant standards gracefully delivered with sensual Brazilian jazz rhythms.

Another first-class album from John Surman (baritone and soprano saxs) with John Abercrombie (guitar), Drew Gress (double-bass), and Jack DeJohnette (drums). Highlights include “Slanted Sky,” “Hilltop Dancer,” and “Counter Measures.”

Joe McBride, Heads Up

Joe McBride (piano & vocals) performs with impeccable timing along with some warm-hearted singing. Every song here is worth listening to. Highly recommended.

Chuck Loeb, Heads Up

This is one Chuck Loeb’s best albums with some fine performances from Brian Culbertson and Eric Marienthal along with the beautiful voice of Lizzy Loeb on “Oh No You Don’t,” and the sexy, honeyed Carmen Cuesta with her rendition of “Só Tinha De Que Ser  Com Vocé.

Pianist Marc Copland brings us Night Whispers with some fine performances from Drew Gress (bass) and Bill Stewart (drums).

This is a fine album that features some excellent performances (“Passing Trains,” “Hand Picked from Her Garden,” and “Trip to the Casbah”) from Nathan Eklund (trumpet & flugelhorn), Donny McCaslin (tenor saxophone), John Hart (guitar), Bill Moring (bass), and Tim Horner (drums).

For those fans of guitarist Peter White, his latest album finds him in peak form and serving up some of his finest performances to date.

Paul Taylor (sax) is no newcomer to the smooth jazz world and on his latest album he is out to burn your soul with those fiery, hot night sounds of his. This is powerful music for a roomful of happy folks. When the night is yours, this is the music to enjoy and have fun.

Najee, Heads Up

Here’s another smooth jazz player with some lovely entertaining music for your heart’s desire. Mind over matter is where you want to be when love is in the air and all is well.

True Love •••
Jessy J, Peak Records

Saxophonist Jessy J’s latest release is a fine example why the saxophone is still the most endearing and seductive instrument for jazz lovers. Next in line is the piano and on True Love there is plenty of lovely interplay (“True Love” and “Morning Of The Carnival From Black Orpheus”) to soothe and pleasure the soul. Smooth jazz lovers should grab this one.

Joe Martin (bass) is the producer for this classical delightful jazz album with the sharply sweet sounds of saxophonist Chris Potter, veteran pianist Brad Mehldau, and Marcus Gilmore (drums).
