October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Please keep the cause and the merchants in mind while you’re out and about!

Look Hot & Save the ta-tas®
Mickey of Michael Anthony Salon took a class to brush up on hair extension techniques, a class that was donating a portion of their proceeds to breast cancer research. It got Mickey thinking. Mickey thought unity among Capitol Hill businesses for this cause was in order, and contacted several area merchants. “I’m just trying to raise money for what is dear to so many of my clients,” he said.

“I wanted to do something to help the cause, but I was looking for something unique, not like the Avon Walkathon, which is good, but I wanted to get the word out to the community and let them know what they can do that is non-traditional.” Incorporating the two, Mickey has come up with pink hair extensions – fun and easily removable – for $10. “I’m donating the money directly to Save the ta-tas®. They promote healing through laughter,” said Mickey.

Julia Fikse, founder of Save the ta-tas®, called from California to explain, “Every $50,000 we make supports a researcher for one year – new cancer research, which is really important. We’ve partnered with the Concern Foundation, which seeks out researchers.” Their fundraising goal is $0.90 on the dollar. “And we’re doing it,” said Fikse. “We’ve been in business just a year, and we’ve already donated $339,000! Michael Anthony is going over the top – it’s amazing. We are able to do what we do because of people like Mickey Bolek and Dawn Price.”

The Save the ta-tas® extensions are available through the month of October at Michael Anthony Salon 661 C St., SE. 202-506-3609 or www.michaelanthonysalondc.com.

Jen Zatkowski, owner of Pawticulars, is offering an adorable 12” Pink Ribbon Dog Loofa, actually a soft toy, for $7. “They’re really cute,” said Zatkowski, “and they’re plush, very popular.
