My husband feels we should remove our cement front walk and install permeable pavers. He says they are environmentally superior. Can you explain briefly why?

This is about sending non-toxic filtered water into our much-polluted local rivers. Rainfall that does not run off cement and pavement, but instead enters the ground, is filtered by vegetation, roots and soil. This means it is cleansed of the heavy metals and other toxins found in city rainfall.

Is This My Month or Are You Just Happy to See Me?

E on DC

It’s February again. Should I celebrate Black History Month or just St. Valentine’s Day? Which is more difficult – being black or falling in love?

What I love about DC, is that it’s a city where history can jog or walk alongside you. This city is almost Ground Zero if you want to remember the Civil War. I keep thinking one day I’m going to run into Walt Whitman caring for black youth near Gallery Place.
