Burglars Enter Via Fire Escapes

The Crime Blotter - November 24

This the past weekend, the First District responded to two apartment burglaries in PSA 107 north of Independence Ave. SE. In both cases, the criminals gained entry through an apartment window accessed by a fire escape. One resident may have left a window unlocked.

“Please ensure that your apartment windows are properly secured, particularly those that can be accessed by way of a fire escape,” stated First District Commander Daniel P. Hickson.

November 25th

Convenience Store Robbed on 15th Street NE

The Crime Blotter - November 23

The M & T convenience store on the 200 block of 15th St. NE was robbed at 2:25 p.m.

There was a robbery in an alley near the 1000 block of Bladensburg Rd. NE at 2:15 a.m.

There was a robbery on the 1300 block of Half St. SW at 12:35 a.m.

Police Advise Residents Not to Leave Items in Parked Cars

The Crime Blotter - November 22

Recently, there has been a rash of vehicle break ins. “Thefts from autos usually have one thing in common: there's something left in the vehicle worth stealing,” said PSA 107 Lieutenant Eddie G. Fowler. According to Fowler, these thefts are crimes of opportunity that can be prevented by taking the following simple precautions:

  • Do not leave valuables, especially GPS units, iPods, iPads, cell phones, loose change, packages or clothing, in plain sight in a parked vehicle.

November 21st

Afternoon Purse-Snatching on 15th Street SE

There was a purse-snatching on the unit block of 15th St. SE at 3:45 p.m.

There was an assault with a deadly weapon on the 800 block of 21st St. NE at 12:34 a.m.

There was an attempted robbery on the 700 block of 19th St. NE at 5 p.m.

Morning Attempted Robbery at Eastern Market Metro Plaza

There was an attempted robbery in the Metro Plaza at 8:05 a.m.

There was a purse-snatching on the unit block of Eighth St. SE at 12:10 p.m.

There was a knifing on the 1300 block of Canal St. SW at 2:10 p.m.

The American Craft Beer Cookbook

The Lager Lady

The craft beer sensation that is sweeping the nation arrived in the DC area on Nov. 18 in the form of The American Craft Beer Cookbook. A signing by the author, John Holl, took place at The Salt & Pepper bookstore located just south of DC at National Harbor. Holl has traveled from breweries and brewpubs across the United States to gather the recipes. His cookbook includes both dishes that incorporate or pair well with craft beer.

Mugging on Unit Block of Eighth Street SE

The Crime Blotter - November 18

On Nov. 19, a man snuck up on female pedestrian from behind on the unit block of Eighth St. SE. Snatching her iPhone, he fled. The police are looking for a black male in his 30s with a slim build, dark complexion, short hair and “bulging eyes.” He was last seen wearing a black nylon jacket and black beanie.
