Philanthropist Steve L. Cymrot Has Died

Steve L. Cymrot passed away on the afternoon of Nov. 29 at George Washington University Hospital. Cymrot's death was the result of injuries sustained in a recent traffic accident.

Cymrot was a long time resident of Capitol Hill. A Harvard-educated lawyer and former teacher, Cymrot invested in Capitol Hill real estate. In recent years he spent most of his time as the proprietor of Riverby Books, a well-known local antiquarian bookstore with branches on Capitol Hill and in Fredericksburg, VA.

Toddlers on the Hill, (Toth) a Montessori classroom for 1 and 2 year-olds, is proud to announce the award of their first ever scholarship to a local family demonstrating financial need. The award to sixteen-month-old Kamirra Coleman would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of ToTH families that spearheaded an ambitious fundraising campaign.

Hispanic Heritage

The students of Waterfront Academy walked to the Smithsonian’s Discovery Theater on the Washington Mall, had a picnic on the Mall, and then enjoyed the show, “Uno, Dos, Tres con Andres” to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. “Uno, Dos, Tres con Andres” is a bilingual children’s music show that celebrates Latin culture. 

Marion Barry’s Memorial Events Will Span Three Days

Three days of events celebrating the life of former Mayor and Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry will take place next week from Thursday, Dec. 4, to Saturday, Dec. 6, officials said.

The details of Barry’s memorial events were released today by Mayor Vincent C. Gray, D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, and representatives of Barry’s family.
