Police Investigate Three Thefts

Crime Blotter — December 18

At 11:45 p.m., police arrested a woman on the 1000 block of Third St. SW on charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

At 10:15 a.m., police arrested a man on the 1900 block of D St. SE on charges of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

At 1:25 a.m., police arrested a woman on the 2600 block of Benning Rd. NE on charges of Driving Under the Influence.

In Other Dec. 17 News

There was a robbery on the 1000 block of K St. NE.

Charles Allen Accepts Transit Appointment

Ward 6 Councilmember Allen Will Serve on the Transit Planning Board for 2016

Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen had been appointed as Second Vice Chair for the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) in 2016. He joins Chairman Timothy Lovain of Alexandria, Va., First Vice Chair Bridget Newton of Rockville, Md.

Allen said he appreciates the board selecting him for the position. He rides the Metro to work nearly every day and understands the importance of a reliable transit option for the people in the city.

DC “Vision Zero” Action Plan Released

The District’s “Vision Zero” plan's goal is to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries to people walkers, bikers and drivers by 2024. The Vision Zero Action Plan is the result of an extensive planning process involving 30 government agencies, community groups and residents. The plan places a high priority on making safety improvements and refining how the city monitors and addresses hazardous street conditions. During the planning process, residents reported more than 4,500 hazardous locations.

T’is the Season to Install Solar Energy East of the River!

The cost of installing solar panels has never been cheaper, and homeowners in DC’s Wards 7 and 8 are jumping on the renewable energy bandwagon. Working in collaboration with DC Solar United Neighborhoods(DC SUN), homeowners (and businesses owners who own their building) are establishing the East of the River Solar Co-op, using their collective buying power to get a discounted price for solar panel installation. DC SUN is hoping that at least 100 residents and business will sign up for this group bulk purchase.

Homeless Children Need Donations

The Playtime Project at DC General Needs Help Reaching Their Program Funding Goal for 2016

Playtime Project for homeless children still needs donations to reach a $100,000 goal toward funding the program through 2016. Fresh green paint, multimedia stations and a tree-shaped library of books welcome homeless children to the new teen and preteen space housed in DC General Emergency Family Hypothermia Center on the 1900 block of Massachusetts Avenue SE. It officially opened on Oct. 21.
