ANC Special Call Meeting Takes Place Tuesday to Discuss Future Status of Seventh Street SE

Commission Will Hear Public Comment Before Making Recommendation on Opening or Closure of Street to Weekend Traffic

An ANC 6B Special Call Meeting to consider the future status of Seventh Street SE will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 29th. The meeting is the third public meeting to consider the topic this month.

ANC 6B Chair Chander Jayaraman (6B08) welcomed all who wished to attend, and said that he was looking forward to hearing public comment. "This is a very important issue in the community," he said, "that is why we have called this meeting."

Woman Arrested in Northeast Aggravated Assault

At 9:03 a.m. Wednesday, a woman was arrested on the 600 block of H Street NE on charges of Second Degree Cruelty to Children.

At 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, a woman was arrested on the 1800 block of Benning Road NE on charges of Aggravated Assault.

At 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, a man was arrested on the 1700 block of Gales Street NE on charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.

At 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, a car was stolen on the Unit block of Fifth Street SE.

DC Shorts Film Festival Calls the Hill Home for Closing Weekend

Festival Taking Place September 15th to 17th Features Films, Workshops, Panel Discussions and Parties

The 2017 DC Shorts Film Festival will call the Hill home for their closing weekend, Friday September 15th through Sunday September 17th. Competitions, panels and film screenings will take place at the Miracle Theater (535 Eighth Street SE) and at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) at 545 7th Street SE.

Arrest Made in December 2016 Misdemeanor Sexual Abuse Incident

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Youth and Family Services Division, Physical and Sexual Abuse Branch announced that an arrest has been made in a Misdemeanor Child Sexual Abuse offense that occurred on Wednesday December 7, 2016 in the 1800 block of East Capitol Street, Southeast.

At about 4:00 p.m. on that date, an unknown suspect engaged in sexually suggestive conduct with a juvenile victim as the victim walked in the 1800 block of East Capitol Street Southeast.

Councilmember Vincent Gray to Meet With Safeway Executive Thursday

Safeway Requests Meeting After Gray’s Unscheduled Inspections of Ward 7 Safeway Stores Last Thursday

Councilmember Vincent Gray (Ward 7-D) will meet with executives for Safeway’s Eastern Regional Division and Albertsons Companies (Safeway's parent company) Thursday August 23, his office said on Wednesday. The meeting was requested by Safeway after the Councilmember conducted unscheduled inspections of the Safeway grocery stores located in Ward 7. The inspections took place Thurday August 17 at Safeway stores located at East River Park Shopping Center (322 40th St NE) and Good Hope Marketplace (2845 Alabama Avenue, SE).

Hill Community Celebrates Eclipse at Southeast Library

Between 75 and 100 residents of the Hill attended the Eclipse Viewing Party at the DC Public Library Southeast Branch (403 Seventh Street SE) on the afternoon of Monday August 21st. The District experienced an 81 percent eclipse that peaked at about 2:42 p.m. in the afternoon. It was not a complete eclipse, but it is a rare occurance and the neighborhood was rightfully fascinated.

Woman Arrested in August 18th Southwest Stabbing

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) First District have made an arrest in an attack with a knife that took place Friday August 18 on the 1200 block of Delaware Avenue SW.

At around 11:00 p.m., two people approached a person at that address. In the course of the fight that followed, one of the suspects pulled a knife and stabbed the victim before running away. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
