Winter Nights: Gay Men's Chorus Holiday show

At the Lisner Saturday at 3 pm and 8 pm

Welcome the holiday season in style, with bold backdrops, stunning costumes and lights, dancers, and a Chorus of over 200 singers. Winter Nights proves to be one of the biggest – if not the biggest – holiday shows ever presented by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC. This year there is a Saturday matinee at 3 pm. At Lisner auditorium, 730 21st St. NW.

It was a perfect day for a playdate on Veteran's Day Monday, with 70 degree temperatures and lots of good books to exchange.

CHRS Auction a Success!

 The Capitol Hill Restoration Society held its Fun Fall Auction and Members' Reception last night in the North Hall of the Eastern Market.  Event organizer, Michelle Carroll,  and the crew whoassisted her, made it a fun evening for all.

Celebrity Auctioneers included CM Tommy Wells and the Rag's own Andrew Lightman.  Members and friends sipped wine, nibbled cheese and bid on a wide range of items.  Highlights of the live auction included original art and an antique, and useful, wooden filing cabinet..

Ray Bowers Longtime Eastern Market Shop Keeper Has Died

J. Raymond "Ray" Bowers, the longtime proprietor of Bowers Fancy Dairy Products at the historic Eastern Market, died in his sleep. The "Cheese Man" was a regular presence at the Market since his father Harris Rockford Bowers purchased the cheese stall in 1964.

Bowers is survived by his son Michael, who has managed the shop in rescent years. A small memorial has been established at the stand to allow friends to express their condolences.

Oxon Cove Park/Oxon Hill Farm Hosts Winter Multicultural Festival

Oxon Cove Park/Oxon Hill Farm, units of the National Park Service will host a Multicultural Winter Festival on Sunday, December 1, from noon to 3 p.m., at 6411 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, Maryland. This event will be free and open to the public.

Fairlawn Yes! Organic Market to Close after Two Years

Located on the first floor of the Grays on Pennsylvania, the Fairlawn Yes! Organic Market was the first organic supermarket located east of the Anacostia River, the first to be built since 2007, and seventh Yes! location in the city. “Residents in Ward 8 have not been able to buy fresh, nutritious food at an affordable price in their neighborhoods,” then-Mayor Adrian Fenty said in a 2010 statement. “This store changes that.” However, two years later, Gary Cha, its owner, has announced that it will close sometime in December.
