At 9:07 a.m. Tuesday, a man was arrested on the 1100 block of Third Street SW on charges of Simple Assault. Thefts From Cars At 9:24 p.m. Tuesday, there was a theft from a car on the 600 block of Independence Avenue SW. At 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, there was a theft from a car on the 1600 block of Second Street SW. At 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, there was a theft from a car on the 1400 block of A Street NE. The District Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced Tuesday that an arrest was made in a shooting that took place Monday July 10 on the 1300 block of I street NE. On July 10, police responded to reports of gunshots at the above address. They found a one-year-old boy who had been shot several times. His injuries were not life-threatening. A vehicle crashed into a barrier and a Capitol Police cruiser at Independence Avenue and Third Street SE just before noon Monday. The Washington Post reported that the trunk of the vehicle was opened with explosives but nothing suspicious was found inside. Streets were closed for several hours. An employee at Firehook Bakery (215 Pennsylvania Ave. SE), located near the scene, said the shop was evacuated and remained closed for almost five hours. The grand opening of the new Realignment Studio (641 Pennsylvania Ave. SE) took place the afternoon of Sunday July 16. Police are investigating an assault that took place around 11:58 p.m. Sunday July 16 in the 900 block of D Street NE. A man was walking east on D Street NE when three people approached him and tried to take his backpack. The man was shot in the hand during the robbery. The three people got into a dark-colored Toyota and fled the area. The three suspects are described as black males, one of whom was wearing a gray sweatshirt. Saturday July 14, the Congressional Cemetery Movie Nights “Cinematery” features the 1941 classic The Maltese Falcon, starring film legend Humphrey Bogart. A one-year-old was the victim of a shooting Monday July 10. At about 9:00 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting on the 1300 block of I Street NE. The child was transported to the hospital. Police said the injuries were not life-threatening but that the infant will have surgery. Police are searching for two suspects.
