Capitol Hill establishments are opening early Thursday so that residents can grab a drink and watch the day’s big event.

At 10 a.m., former FBI Director James Comey is scheduled to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Capitol Hill watering holes will have special drinks and special hours.

There are likely to be a lot of five-dollar words during the testimony, and there will be quite a few $5 drink specials over at Boxcar Tavern (224 7th St. SE). Doors will open at 10 a.m. and you can watch the hearing on one of the three big screen televisions over the bar.

Just a few blocks behind the Capitol Building, Capitol Lounge (229 Pennsylvania Ave. SE) will open at 9 a.m. Pitchers of beer will be $15 starting at 11 a.m. At 4 p.m., right as the hearing is expected to end, sliders will be on special for $2.

A few doors down, the Hawk and Dove (329 Pennsylvania Ave. SE) has a full list of specials on offer for as long as Comey is testifying. $8 appetizers featuring shrimp and chicken provide fodder for jokes no matter what your political stripe. Also available are $5 draft beer and $7 cocktails, including the hopeful sounding Dove’s Garden, a mix of gin, basil, and pineapple and lime juice.

Over at Union Pub (201 Massachusetts Ave. NE), doors open at 9:30 a.m.Their special? A round on the house every time President Trump tweets about the hearing. Could make for a very happy morning!

The Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce (CHAMPS) said, "Think you might need a shoulder during the Comey testimony Thursday?  Grab a neighbor and head to a local restaurant!  That’s the charm of Capitol Hill."
