DDOT Releases Holiday Changes

Transportation, Parking Rules and Construction Will Be Suspended or Extended Over Christmas, New Years

Prepare for altered transportation routes and a break from parking restrictions on Dec. 25, Christmas Day and Jan. 1, New Year’s Day. The DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) released its holiday operating schedule on Tuesday with details about circulator routes and how it will handle parking for this holiday season.

DC Circulator changes until Jan. 1:

  • It will not run on Dec. 25.
  • It will offer special routes on Dec. 31 — buses on the Dupont Circle/Georgtown/Rosslyn route will extend to 2 a.m., buses on the Georgetown/Union Station route will extend to 2 a.m. between Georgetown and McPherson Square, and the Woodley Park/Adams Morgan/McPherson Square route will extend until 3:30 a.m.

DDOT will also lift rush-hour lane restrictions and not enforce parking meters, residential parking permits, and tow zones for abandoned vehicles on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. They resume those restrictions at 6 a.m. Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Also, non-emergency construction workers get a holiday break from Dec. 24-27 and from Dec. 31-Jan. 3. This includes for only public spaces and stops vehicles like dump trucks and concrete trucks. Work resumes Jan. 4.
