Eddie’s Alice

A girl of all the beauty

that he could see,

Dancing with another,

                alone and waiting—

It seemed—

                just for him.

Twirling and turning

to turn his head….

A rare, rare thing is first love

—true love—

And, should it come to you,

it is your duty to live it!

That’s what the smile in her eyes

                seemed to tell him:

Eddie, they seemed to say,

come away with me to paradise!

And so, they wed and lived that dream

for the rest of her life….

Could tomorrow

                be any different…?

Sixty-three years as one

                and then she slipped away….

Goodbye, Eddie,

my suitor and companion.

I’ll wake to you each night

until you

Come away with me
