Frager's: Fundraisers Galore!
Mark your calendars for Friday, June 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. when the community is invited to attend Al Fresco for Frager's, a food-focused event to benefit Frager’s Hardware as they recover from a devastating fire on June 5. A beloved institution, Frager’s has been a part of the fabric of Capitol Hill since the early 20th century.
Mike Bowers of Bowers Fancy Dairy Products at Eastern Market echoes many in the neighborhood, “They’re such a very important part of our community – and this event will be like a big community hug for Frager’s.”
Al Fresco for Frager’s festivities take place outdoors beneath the Farmers' Line shed at Historic Eastern Market located at 225 7th St SE. Over a dozen noted neighborhood restaurants and popular food purveyors will serve up great culinary treats – the impressive list includes Acqua al Due, Bowers Fancy Dairy Products, Boxcar Tavern, Canales Delicatessen, Fine Sweet Shop, Market Lunch, Market Poultry, Montmartre, Pitango Gelato, Puddin’ Po Boy, Seventh Hill Pizza, Silver Spork, Tortilla Café, Tunnicliff’s Tavern and Union Meat Company.
Tickets, two for $6, can be purchased at the event; one ticket will equate to a “taste” from a vendor’s table and part of the sale of each ticket will go to the Frager’s Fund, managed by the Capitol Hill Community Foundation. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for Eastern Market artisan offerings.
Little Red and the Renegades, a well-known, six-piece Global Zydeco band has generously donated their performance for the evening – a vibrant brand of Zydeco, World Music and New Orleans’ funk. They’ve performed extensively throughout the region at such venues and events as the Atlas Theatre, Artisphere, Smithsonian’s Mardi Gras Party, DC Jazz Festival and the Kennedy Center as well as SXSW (Austin, Texas) and the New Music Seminar in Manhattan.
All proceeds from this event will be collected through the Capitol Hill Community Foundation which has established The Frager’s Fund to provide help as needed in the aftermath of the June 5th fire. Neighbors concerned about the store’s employees and the other businesses impacted are encouraged to donate; 100 per cent of every dollar donated through the Capitol Hill Community Foundation will be given to the intended recipients.
Volunteers who would like to work on this event can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
