School Notes - November 2014

First Lego League Tournament Held at Friendship’s Collegiate Academy

Friendship Collegiate Academy is the only D.C. location this year to host a FIRST Lego League (FLL) Qualifying Regional Tournament in the VA/D.C. Region.  Using a Lego Mindstorms Robot Set, students in grades 4-8 work in teams using their science, technology, and engineering skills to problem solve and present their solution to a challenge. Twenty teams from across the D.C./VA region have already registered and will be competing at Friendship Collegiate Academy on Saturday, November 22.  Winners of regional tournaments qualify for the state championship in December.

Friendship Public Charter School is pleased to be hosting the event as an extension of their own STEM - science, technology, engineering, and math- based curriculum. Students are able to apply skills learned in the classroom to the competition, in a creative and innovative way and compete with other students who come from less disadvantage neighborhoods.
