Just Opened Today: Uprising

Small Bites

Donnie Simpson, Jr., owner of Uprising at 1817 7th Street, NW, just opened the doors to his new coffee shop today. Here you’ll find great muffins, savory and sweet, in addition to excellent coffees and teas. Photo: Annette Nielsen

You’re bound to be out and about over the weekend taking in the great spring weather and blooms – and if you’re looking for a new place to re-caffeinate and have a quick bite, try Uprising Muffin Company.  Donnie Simpson, Jr. has spent the last four years working on his pet project – opening up a coffee shop and fine-tuning his recipes for sweet and savory muffins. You can make a meal out of the maple pancake or bacon, egg and cheese.  Simpson’s coffee offerings include small batched roasted and single origin seasonal drips (his milk comes from “respectfully raised local cows”), and you’ll also find a nice selection of salads and sandwiches – perfect for a picnic.

The location couldn’t be better, right at the Shaw Metro stop –you’ll be tempted by an upscale urban décor, great tunes, and relaxed seating.
