Spring weather brings in a new opportunity for rooftop yoga on Capitol Hill starting April 23 with 405 Yoga at 910 Bladensburg Road NE.

The yoga team at 405 will host a sunset “Sky’s the Limit” kick-off party for their new rooftop satellite location from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a DJ; sponsor giveaways like yoga mats and clothes from Athleta; drinks from District Juicery; beer from Atlas Brew Works; and of course — outdoor yoga.

To sign up, visit or visit the link on their Facebook event page. Participants need to buy at least one $19 drop in class, a 5 or 10-class membership or unlimited pass to join. As of April 5, the event had 75 spaces left of 150 total.

Scheduled rooftop classes will run with a maximum of 30 students starting on April 25 and running:

  • Tuesdays from 5:45 to 6:55 p.m.
  • Thursdays from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.
  • Saturdays from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m.

The regular studio is located at 1000 Florida Avenue NE, but W.S. Jenks and Son hardware at 910 Bladensburg Road offered 405 a chance to use their new community space on the roof of their store starting this spring.

“They started a dialogue with us because we were using their retail store to build out our yoga studio,” said 405 Yoga instructor Merideth VanSant. “They’re really working to make it a community space for Capitol Hill and the H Street corridor.”

The space will also include a small garden and area for people to gather, she said. As for yoga, she said her team wanted to expand upon the studio they currently run and meet the needs of their yoga members.

“We started to listen and thought, what can we do to continue to serve everyone coming through our doors,” VanSant said. “Class members said they’d love to do it outside.”
