DC Public Schools (DCPS) and Metro Police Department will reevaluate security protocals for after school events in the wake of a recent shooting outside Eastern Senior High School.

At around 10 p.m.  last Frday on the 1900 block of East Capitol Street, police responded to reports of shots fired from a car at two women leaving the game. The women were taken to the hospital. A third victim was also identified.

DCPS Spokeswoman Michelle Lerner said that DCPS's security force is reviewing the level of security both before and after school games.

“DC Public Schools takes safety very seriously, both on school grounds and in the community,” Lerner said. “Counselors and social workers are available at Eastern High school for anyone in our school community who would like support surrounding this incident.”

Lerner promised that the school leadership will continue to work with MPD to choose the best safety options.

MPD First District Cmdr. Jeff Brown said the case doesn’t have leads or suspects right now. He promised increased police visibility during school sports events.
