You can order a $1 pretzel April 26 at the Pretzel Bakery (257 15th St. SE) to celebrate National Pretzel Day and the shop’s fifth anniversary since opening on Capitol Hill.

Owner Sean Haney and Director of Operations Alan Chargin will also hand out 500 free pretzels in the Rayburn Office Building on Independence Avenue SE with DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen.

Since opening in 2012, the Pretzel Bakery has grown and added savory and sweet takes on the original twist—the everything pretzel; a cinnamon-glazed pretzel; variety of dipping mustards, cream cheese, Nutella and sauces; pretzel roll breakfast sliders; pretzel calzones; pretzel hot dogs; and a Nutella-filled pretzel bomb. And they now have a license to serve local beers with their pretzels.

“What the owner Sean and I appreciate about the neighborhood is how much pride people have for their local establishments,” Chargin said. “We know they could go a lot of different places for their food and coffee, but they come to us.”

He and the Pretzel Bakery team attribute their success to the people on the Hill and their support.
