Change keeps coming to the Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Stadium Campus. For the past six weeks, the Skate Park at RFK has been closed for a transformation by local artist Naturel.

Co-designed by a pro skater, this 15,000-square-foot attraction has been called the top skate park in the DC area. Skaters of all ages and skill levels use it, and families enjoy watching the action.

Join Events DC for a day of family-friendly fun with games, food, music, entertainment and the unveiling of a new mural on the Skate Park at RFK Stadium designed by Naturel. The unveiling of the artwork and re-opening of the Skate Park will take place at a RFK Community Appreciation Day event from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 20 at RFK Stadium (2400 East Capitol Street, SE).

Professional and amateur skaters will be on site including DCs Professional Skateboarder Darren Harper, Mountain Dew skateboarders Chris Colbourn and Jordan Maxham, local skaters the Shaw Boyz, and an all female skater group Skate Girls Tribe. There will be live performances by Black Alley and Alison Carney.

DC Vault will show off their talent on their new pole vault track located next to the skate park, and you can show off your vaulting prowess as well. There will be a mechanical skateboard, interactive art wall, food trucks, open use of the newly painted skate park and family-friendly activities throughout the day.

Events DC continues to make progress in opening and improving spaces for District residents and visitors. The Skate Park is not the only change on the RFK Stadium campus. Fences are being removed, a bicycle-friendly path is being created, and crews are extending the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail to improve accessibility. Pole-vaulters and baseball enthusiasts are utilizing new facilities around the campus.

The RFK Campus Block Party is free and open to everyone! The party takes place 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday August 20. Be sure to RSVP!

A release for print publication previously listed the date of the event as Saturday August 19th.
