Solar Eclipse Viewing Party Monday at Southeast Library

Treats, Crafts and Conversation About the Event to Follow

Join the Southeast Branch of the DC Public Library (403 Seventh St. SE) on Monday, August 21 for a viewing party during the partial solar eclipse of the sun.

On Monday at 2:42 p.m., the District will experience an 81 percent eclipse of the sun. Although it will not be a total eclipse, it is an extremely rare phenomenon.

Those who attend the viewing party will receive a free pair of eclipse glasses to view the eclipse in the Southeast Library garden. The event is for the whole family--all are welcome. Supplies of glasses are limited and will only be distributed to those attending the event.

Attendees should meet at 2:30 p.m. to receive glasses, while supplies last. After the eclipse there will be treats, a craft for younger participants, and conversation about the shared experience of the spectacle in the sky.

This event is made possible by a generous donation from the Friends of the Southeast Library.

The DC Public Library reminds everyone that proper safety glasses must be worn when viewing the eclipse.

Please consult this list provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for more information and links to reputable vendors to purchase glasses.

DO NOT use regular sunglasses when viewing the eclipse as such protection is insufficient. Viewing the eclipse without protection could lead to serious damage of eyes and vision.
